Glowbug + Wallabag

I just hacked in a new feature on the frontpage of this blog, I've integrated my Wallabag with this blog! Wallabag is a web application allowing you to save web pages for later reading, there is a popular tool called Pocket which does the same thing. The difference between Wallabag and Pocket is that Wallabag is something I can self-host.

The first level of this integration is that you can see what articles are currently sitting unread in my Wallabag. These are things that I come across through the day and I throw them in there to come back to at some point, maybe. I make no guarantees on the quality of them as they are often saved either based purely on the subject, or maybe by reading the first paragraph or so.

I have a few further ideas:

The Shinto Temple in Ise (longnow.org)

A fascinating insight into a Shinto tradition I wasn't aware of. Every 20 years for the past 1,400 years, they have rebuilt this Shinto temple.

I keep trying, but I just can't get into Substack. I want to. It's a structure that makes sense. But... I don't know. I just haven't been able to make the leap despite creators I like being on the platform. This is further confusing because I have no problem supporting Streamers with subscriptions on Twitch.

Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness (2022) (imdb.com)

Saw it last night and overall I enjoyed it but I didn't love it. It was VERY Sam Raimi, and he just is not a director I find really enjoyable.

I think it feels like we're in the middle of transitioning Marvel's story eras and I found this movie as a transition piece to be a bit rough and tumble.

The Future of Search Is Boutique (future.a16z.com)

An interesting examination of a potential way to compete with Google and other search engines. I'm not sure I believe it as something that should be treated as simple. One problem I foresee with something like this is when you approach a problem like this from defining a vertical, you will struggle with boundaries and scope creep as your vertical grows more and more complex. So the management and protection of that vertical is a growing challenge.

Straight White Male: The Lowest Difficulty Setting There Is (whatever.scalzi.com)

Author John Scalzi wrote this a decade ago, a good write up to try and help those who don't get it - to get it.

Okay: In the role playing game known as The Real World, "Straight White Male" is the lowest difficulty setting there is.
