Covid Negative - so far

8/16/2022 12:22 pm | : 2 mins.

So the reason for my expectation of decreased posting over the weekend was because I was traveling and spending time with family. As it turns out, only Sunday and Monday were really affected. Sunday was the final day with family and also I was just feeling exhausted from the go-go-go of it. Monday we had an early flight home and then I just vegged out and enjoyed my last day off of work.

Since I got Covid last time I traveled, I'm taking precautions and staying home and not going into the office right away. We took a test as soon as we got home and then I just took another today. Both are still showing negative. Which is what I expect and hope for, I don't feel any symptoms. But, want to be sure and not cause any sort of office outbreak. So, I will continue to be patient.

Pizza parlor owner arbitrages Doordash when they misprice his own pizzas

8/16/2022 12:57 pm | : 1 min.

And so the story unfolds. “If someone could pay Doordash $16 a pizza, and Doordash would pay his restaurant $24 a pizza, then he should clearly just order pizzas himself via Doordash, all day long. You’d net a clean $8 profit per pizza [insert nerdy economics joke about there is such a thing as a free lunch],” wrote Roy. They order 10 pizzas this way, and it worked! The money was free, a seamless transfer from SoftBank’s deep venture capital-lined pockets to Roy’s friend’s business bank account. Eventually, in another series of what Roy hilariously calls “trades,” they just ordered pizza dough through DoorDash for $75 in pure profit.

A technical write up explaining why using VPNs on iOS devices comes with concerns and can leak your data and identity

VPNs on iOS are broken. At first, they appear to work fine. The iOS device gets a new public IP address and new DNS servers. Data is sent to the VPN server. But, over time, a detailed inspection of data leaving the iOS device shows that the VPN tunnel leaks. Data leaves the iOS device outside of the VPN tunnel. This is not a classic/legacy DNS leak, it is a data leak. I confirmed this using multiple types of VPN and software from multiple VPN providers.

Department of Education to forgive $4B in loans for those defauded by ITT Technical Institute

8/16/2022 7:38 pm | : 1 min.

The Department of Education announced Tuesday that it will cancel nearly $4 billion worth of federal student loans for 208,000 borrowers defrauded by a popular for-profit institution.

All remaining students who attended the now-defunct ITT Technical Institute (ITT) between Jan. 1, 2005, through its closure in September 2016, including those who have not submitted a borrower defense claim, will have 100% of their loans canceled. Borrowers who qualify for the relief will not need to take any additional action to receive the funds.

Elon Musk says he's buying Manchester United

I'll believe it when I see it. But, assuming he does, I'll welcome that many more people to join the club of people who hate Manchester United.

Spoilers - Better Call Saul Finale

Going to be honest. I didn't love the finale of Better Call Saul. I didn't hate it. But it left me feeling earnestly meh. He got to redeem himself, I'm happy for him but honestly he didn't deserve it.

"USPS reform act 2022: What the new overhaul law means for you"

8/16/2022 9:09 pm | : 1 min.

I had no idea that this law got bipartisan support and passed. Biden signed it today.

From the article:

The Postal Service Reform Act will require retired postal employees to enroll in Medicare when eligible, while dropping a previous mandate that forced the agency to cover its health care costs years in advance.

Those two measures would save the USPS nearly $50 billion over the next decade, according to the House Oversight Committee.

The legislation will also require the USPS to create an online dashboard with local and national delivery time data.
