Watch John Kirby brilliantly respond to a question about why the Department of Defense policy on abortion is so critical to military readiness. This is a perfect answer and is so important. #johnkirby #dod #departmentofjustice #military #meidastouch

Fort Bragg becomes Fort Liberty as Conferderate renamings continue

I heard this during listening to NPR's news yesterday on the drive home. Glad to see another Confederate general erased.

20 Years Since the US Invaded Iraq

I was wondering why my RSS feed was besieged by Iraq retrospectives and I finally learned it was because today is the 20th anniversary of the invasion.

We were sold lies in the name of national security. We toppled a tyrant under these falsehoods. And it was only the beginning of our prolonged presence in the middle east to secure our access to oil and in the name of freedom.

A Chinese spy balloon is over the western US

I don't know why but I find this wild. Not that I thought the US never had spies fly over it, just to hear about it. Also, given Google and satellites, a flying spy vessel just feels antiquated.

When a F-117 crashed two years before it was revealed, the Air Force replaced it with a crashed F-101A

I had always loved the look of the F-117. So sharp and angular. Today on Reddit I spotted a post which shared this story and it explains perfectly why people believe conspiracy theories.

Someone on Reddit asked why they bothered replacing it, and instead didn't just haul it away and say it was a F-101A. I suspect it had to do with limiting the secret. If they just hauled it away, more people ask questions, etc.

Anyways, fascinating stuff.

"Officials say US forces killed almost 700 suspected ISIS members in 2022"

U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM) said in a release on Thursday that it conducted 313 operations against ISIS over the past year, killing 466 operatives in Syria and at least 220 operatives in Iraq. Officials also detained 215 operatives in Syria and 159 operatives in Iraq.

The release states that no U.S. forces were injured or killed in the operations, a majority of which were conducted with the United States's allies in the two countries.

It seems notable to me that none of these were done in Afghanistan. I mean, it makes sense, given the whole debacle as we left the country, marching back in to do these operations would not seem sound geopolitically - but, still, given the fact we invaded the entire nation in this godforsaken War on Terror, I thought it notable.

"The Space Force is scrapping the annual fitness test in favor of wearable trackers"

An interesting, and logical, shift. Also, it appears their Guardians will be organized in Space Base Deltas.
